of identity theft in the nation during 2005.
- Identity theft increased by 53.2% in Missouri
(2002 through 2005), an annual compound rate of 15.3%.
- An estimated 180,600 Missouri residents were victimized
by some form of identity-related fraud during 2005.
- The likelihood of Missouri residents being victimized
by identity theft was 3.1% during 2005.
- One-in-twelve (1/12) households, or 8.2%, were
victimized by identity theft in 2005.
- The likelihood of victimization in St.Louis was
11.1% for individuals and 25.0% (1 in 4) households during 2005.
- Identity theft cost Missouri businesses, farms,
and individuals approximately $1.3 billion in 2005.
- Missouri victims were drained of over 9 million
hours of time needed for self-resolution.
- The cost of identity theft in Missouri was 3.7
times greater than the aggregate of all property crimes (burglary, larceny, and
